PrEP: HIV Prevention That Fits Your Life.
PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, is medicine that helps prevent HIV before a person is exposed to the virus. PrEP is for people who do not have HIV but want extra protection and peace of mind.
PrEP is highly effective when taken as prescribed. It may be a good option if:
-
You sometimes have sex without condoms
-
You are unsure of your partner’s HIV status
-
You have a partner living with HIV
-
You have had a recent sexually transmitted infection, also called an STI
-
You have multiple partners
-
You inject drugs or share needles
-
You simply want another way to protect your sexual health
You do not have to know exactly what you need before making an appointment. Our team can talk with you, answer your questions, and help you choose the prevention option that works best for your life.
What to Expect at Your PrEP Visit
At your first PrEP appointment, we will talk with you about your health, sexual health, and prevention goals. Your visit may include:
- HIV testing
- STI testing
- Lab work to check your overall health
- A conversation about which PrEP option may work best for you
- Help with medication access and cost questions
Most PrEP patients return for routine follow-up visits and lab monitoring. These visits help make sure the medication is working well and remains safe for you.
Cost and Access
Five Horizons is here to help make PrEP accessible at no cost to you, whether you are insured or uninsured, no out-of-pocket expenses are incurred for PrEP medication.
PrEP Does Not Replace STI Protection
PrEP helps protect against HIV, but it does not protect against other STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, or trichomoniasis. Condoms, routine testing, and open conversations with your healthcare provider are still important parts of sexual health.
Not Sure if PrEP is Right for You?
That is okay. You do not have to figure it out alone. Contact Five Horizons or request an appointment, and our team will help you understand your options in a judgment-free, confidential setting.
